Mystery

Respectful Dialogue Between Ahmed and John:

Ahmed:
Hey John, can I ask you something honestly, no offense intended?

John:
Of course, Ahmed. Go ahead.

Ahmed:
You believe Jesus is God, right?

John:
Yes, we believe Jesus is God the Son, part of the Trinity.

Ahmed:
Okay, but there are things that don’t add up for me. For example, the Bible says Jesus didn’t know the Hour — like in Mark 13:32, “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the Son, but only the Father.”
But if Jesus is God, how could He not know something? God knows everything.

John:
That’s a fair question. Christians believe Jesus was fully God and fully man. In His humanity, He chose to limit certain divine attributes like omniscience.

Ahmed:
But God can’t stop being God. He’s always all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal. If Jesus chose to “limit” those attributes, doesn’t that mean He wasn’t fully God in those moments?

John:
He never stopped being God, but He humbled Himself and chose to experience human limitations. It’s called the kenosis — the self-emptying.

Ahmed:
Okay, but let’s break that down:

  1. God is immortal — but in your belief, Jesus died on the cross.
  2. God knows everything — but Jesus said He didn’t know the hour.
  3. God doesn’t pray to anyone — but Jesus prayed to God.

So how can Jesus, who did things against God’s divine nature, still be God?

John:
Well, during those times, Jesus chose to act in His human nature. He didn’t cease being divine — He just didn’t exercise those divine powers fully.

Ahmed:
But that means He wasn’t acting as God at those moments. If He can “switch off” divine knowledge or immortality, that means He’s not the same as God who is unchanging and perfect.
Is it possible for God to know everything and not know something at the same time?

John:
It’s a mystery of the incarnation — how divinity and humanity coexist.

Ahmed:
Or maybe it’s just more consistent to say: Jesus was a prophet and servant of God — like he said in John 17:3: “The only true God… and Jesus whom You have sent.” That keeps God’s nature intact — all-knowing, eternal, and always divine.

John:
I see where you’re coming from. I’ll have to reflect on that more.

Ahmed:
